Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Family Motto
As a charitable trust we are reliant on donations and support from the international community.
We work closely with our sister trust UKAHT and enjoy support from a variety of international sources including governments, individuals, foundations, corporations and organisations such as The Getty Foundation and World Monuments Fund.
We welcome your support to assist us to conserve a part of the world’s cultural heritage – a legacy so unique the World Monuments Fund has recently named all four bases (with emphasis on Sir Captain Scott's Cape Evan's base) on its 2008 listing of the 100 Most Endangered Sites in the World.
Lead Supporters
The New Zealand Government through:
Antarctica New Zealand. The Crown Entity responsible for New Zealand’s interests in Antarctica which provides logistical and administrative support to the Trust.
Ministry for Culture and Heritage (delivered through Vote Arts, Culture and Heritage). Responsible for assisting to support and promote the history and heritage associated with New Zealand.
Government Supporters
The United Kingdom Government. The UK Government has provided financial support to the Trust through the Government of British Antarctic Territory (2002) and through the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and the Foreign & Commonwealth Office (2007).
Norwegian Government. Through the Directorate for Cultural Heritage this Government has supported the Trust through funding for a bi-lingual website dedicated to Norwegian explorer Carsten Borchgrevink and funding towards an Implementation Plan for his base at Cape Adare, Antarctica.
Irish Government. In late 2007 Irish President Mary McALeese, at The Ireland Fund of New Zealand fundraiser for the Trust at the Hilton in Auckland announced Ireland Government support of $100,000 for the conservation project.
Partners
The Natural History Museum, London. A partnership borne out of the two organisation’s close links to Antarctica. The partnership aims to profile the history of early British exploration in Antarctica and increase the profile of the Trust’s project in Britain.
Official Airline
Singapore Airlines is the official airline of the Trust.
Major Corporate and Community Trust Sponsors
Hallensteins. A leading retailer, operating throughout Australasia, Hallensteins corporate sponsorship of the Trust see royalties from its “Scott Base” range of clothing coming to the Project.
Christchurch International Airport Ltd. Responsible for airport operations (including flights to and from Antarctica) out of Christchurch, New Zealand.
Southern Trust. This Trust is dedicated to distributing profits from gaming machines and assisted the Trust in 2006 and 2008 through majors grant to assist with operating costs.
Quark Expeditions Inc. A leading tourship company specialising in travel to Polar Regions by Icebreaker, Quark is a long term supporter of our work and supports the Trust in numerous ways including corporate sponsorship.
The Canterbury Community Trust. A charitable trust, established in 1988 with the purpose of providing charitable, cultural, philanthropic and recreational benefits to the community.
Eminent Persons Group (UK).
In 2005 a group of high profile (UK based) individuals passionate about saving the historic huts for future generations was formed.
Originally headed by Trust patron the late Sir Edmund Hillary, members include Sir David Attenborough, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, Michael Howard MP, Sir Simon Jenkins, Sir Neil Cossons, Rt Hon Lord Kennet of the Dene, Kenneth Branagh, Bill Bryson, George Lowe, Michael Morrison, along with descendants of Scott and Shackleton.

Mrs Audrey Dance Estate (UK). A major bequest made in 2006 and overseen by the Executors of the Estate of Mrs Audrey Dance (a relation by marriage to Sir Ernest Shackleton).
United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust. Our UK based sister trust which assists in numerous ways including subventions and fundraising.
The Garfield Weston Foundation. Founded in 1958 GWF is a UK based, general grant-giving charity endowed by the late W Garfield Weston and members of his family. GWF has made two significant grants to the Trust's work in 2004 and 2007.
The Getty Foundation (USA). Part of the J Paul Getty Trust, the Foundation supports a diverse range of projects around the world, including the conservation of historic buildings. Their support includes three grants towards our work.
World Monuments Fund. Responsible for (twice) listing Shackleton’s hut on its biennial World Monuments Watch List of 100 Most Endangered Sites. WMF is a private, non profit organisation dedicated to raising the profile of endangered sites.
American Express Foundation through WMF. Amex has partnered with WMF since 1995 to financially assist the restoration of monuments throughout the world, including Shackleton’s hut, Cape Royds.
New Zealand Lottery Grants Board (through Environment and Heritage Committee). Responsible for distributing the proceeds of state lotteries, their latest support focuses on the conservation of the extensive artefact collection associated with Shackleton’s hut.
Microsoft. Microsoft has assisted the Trust through its "Microsoft Unlimited Potential" programme by donating software to assist with our work.
Department of Conservation. Charged with conserving the natural and historic heritage associated with New Zealand, DoC supports the work of the Trust through secondments to the Project.
The James Caird Society. The society dedicated to preserving the memory of Sir Ernest Shackleton.
